Veganuary 2020 is in full swing, but the food industry has never experienced such rapid development in this ongoing trend.
Whether for health reasons, climate change or animal welfare, statistics show the plant-based population continues to proliferate.
Statistics from the Vegan Society show that approximately 1.16% of the UK population (600,000 people) identify as vegan. That’s a 300% increase since 2014.
This is a clear indicator that the consumption of plant-based food is no longer a marginalised social movement. In fact, veganism is becoming a new way of life, moving away from the niche lifestyle it once was.
To support this exponential growth, food companies have been quick to respond to the demand. The vegan market is currently booming, resulting in thousands of new products being introduced to our supermarkets. Statistics from the Vegan Society show how interest in ‘veganism’ increased seven-fold in the five years between 2014 and 2019.
TasteTech’s vegan-suitable products
TasteTech manufactures encapsulated functional ingredients and flavourings for a wide range of customers across many continents. To meet the needs of our large customer base, TasteTech does not use food allergens or animal-derived ingredients in our factory and operations. This means our products have been suitable for vegetarians for many years.
While we do use small amounts of honey extracts in some of our natural flavourings, the majority of our products are suitable for vegans as they do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. We make all reasonable attempts to minimise cross-contamination from the few animal substances we do use.
